Former Promise Scholar on national theater tour
ROCKFORD – Former Auburn High School and Rockford University performing star Chanel Black is making her national tour debut in the production Legally Blonde The Musical!
Chanel is playing a variety of supporting roles in the production that has dates set through May. Currently, Black and the Legally Blonde cast is in Pennsylvania. They’ll perform in 31 states and three Canadian provinces.
If you’d like to see Chanel perform, your best bets are January 24-26 when the show is at the Marcus Center in Milwaukee and March 14-15 when its in Illinois at the Peoria Civic Center.
It’s a hectic life, but it’s one Chanel has been training for for years. She won the Auburn’s Got Talent contest when she was a high school freshman. At Rockford University, she performed in such productions as Sister Act, Bullets Over Broadway and West Side Story. She also was a part of the Vocal Collective at Rockford University, which was an ensemble group of 15 singers that performed a variety of choral music at university functions and community events.
Chanel was part of Rockford Promise’s third RU cohort in 2018. She was named to the Dean’s List in the spring 2020 semester. She graduated from RU in May.
